Admission Policies and Procedures
While we feel strongly that all students who want to study abroad should be able to, we also feel the need to make sure that you will be able to succeed academically while on the program. For this reason we have instituted the following criteria for applying based upon the differing backgrounds of applicants. If for some reason you do not meet these criteria, but feel strongly that we should consider your application, please submit it with a cover letter explaining why we should consider your case.

  • Applicants who are not currently enrolled in a college or university but have previous university-level credit, click here.
  • Applicants with no previous college or university credit, click here.
 
Currently Enrolled College or University Students
If you are currently enrolled in a college or university in the U.S., you are required to possess a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better to be eligible for admission to the Study Abroad Hawaii Program. If you meet these criteria, you may then submit the following documents so that we may consider your application:
  • Study Abroad Hawaii Application and Course Selection Worksheet
  • Official transcript from your current university or college
  • Personal statement attesting to why we should consider you for the program (500-800 words typed)
  • An application fee of $40.00 (made payable to Study Abroad Hawaii)
Once we receive these documents and the application fee, we will process your application and provide you with a decision within two weeks. You can download the Study Abroad Hawaii Application Packet here.
 
 
Applicants Not Currently Enrolled But With Previous University-Level Credit
If you are not currently enrolled in a college or university, but have previous university-level credit you are required to possess a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better in your post high school career to be eligible for admission to the Study Abroad Hawaii Program. If you meet these criteria, you may then submit the following documents so that we may consider your application:
  • Study Abroad Hawaii Application and Course Selection Worksheet
  • Official transcript from your current university or college
  • Personal statement attesting to why we should consider you for the program (500-800 words typed)
  • An application fee of $40.00 (made payable to Study Abroad Hawaii)

Applicants With No Previous College or University Experience
If you do not have previous college or university experience, but have graduated from high school, then you are eligible to apply if you possess a 2.75 GPA and either an SAT of 1000 or an ACT of 21. If you meet these criteria, please submit the following documents so that we may consider your application:
  • Study Abroad Hawaii Application and Course Selection Worksheet
  • Official transcript from your high school
  • Personal statement attesting to why we should consider you for the program (500-800 words typed)
  • An application fee of $40.00 (made payable to Study Abroad Hawaii)
